UPVC Fascias and Soffits Installers

Fascias, soffits (and guttering) all play an important part in keeping your property dry and pest free. Fascias and soffits also perform a pleasing effect on the eye as a finishing touch to the join between the outer wall and the roof of your property. Without fascias and soffits, your property is at risk of damp and water damage.

We've put together some useful answers to frequently asked questions about fascia boards and soffits. Roof Smart can install UPVC fascias and soffits to your property and are here to help, so if you have any questions, please do contact our experienced fascia and soffits installers

What is a fascia?

Fascia board is the architectural term for a vertical frieze or band of material under a roof edge and is used to protect and seal your roof. They also cover fittings and can  hold the guttering of your property in place. The fascia 'faces' you and is usually behind the guttering - depending on where your gutters are fixed.

What is a soffit?

A soffit is the underside or horizontal band of material that fits with the vertical fascia board to the overhanging eaves of a roof. The soffit 'sits under the fascia, facing the ground'.

How does a soffit fit with a fascia board?

Soffits are tucked away under fascia boards. It is usually the fascia board that you see from street level. Soffits can be ventilated to allow the flow of air into the roof area without letting in unwanted wildlife, such as birds or bats. Alternatively, ventilation can be provided over the top of the fascia board.

When should you replace fascias and soffits?

Soffits and fascias are used to protect your property and make it look more appealing. Replacing fascias and soffits that are old or worn will therefore lift the appearance of your property and help protect the roof and walls from damp and water damage (which can lead to extensive and expensive repairs to the foundations of a property and to the internal decorations too). See info on our gutter cleaning services for more on this. If you're selling your home, it is adviseable to look at the outside of your property and check if the fascias or soffits need mending or replacing. Properties look better if these areas are clean and well maintained.

Are UPVC fascias better than wooden fascias?

Wooden fascias and soffits remain popular even though they have many drawbacks. Wooden fascias and soffits look smart when first installed but require maintenance such as staining or painting throughout their life and are prone to developing moss, algae or mould which may lead to rot if left untreated. UPVC fascias and soffits also look smart, require no painting and are maintenance free. So if your property would suit UPVC fascias and soffits it would be financially more cost effective than the wooden variety. If you prefer the look of wood, then you may like to know that UPVC fascias and soffits are available in wood-effect too. Ask our fascia and soffits installers for details.
